Re: Cilantro paints things
Thanks for the input on the colors. The dress is much more colorful than I usually paint. I do like the yellow/orange but it does still look a little bright to me. It's hard to tell if that's just my taste or what though. I'm going to brighten up the skin first to see if that makes things look a lit...

Re: Cilantro paints things
Thanks for your replies. They are definitely appreciated. I've made a little progress, and I think the dress is looking better with some shadows and lights. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/4/8/791250_sm-.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/4/8/791253_sm-.jpg I've also started on ...

Re: Cilantro paints things
I'm just about finished with Aradae. I have some touch-ups to do here and there where I was sloppy, and also need to darken up the axe handle as suggested. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/3/22/787291_sm-Mierce%2C%20Aradae%20WIP%201%20of%202.jpg http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/3/2...

Re: Cilantro paints Aradae Mawr
Thanks for the replies and advice. I was wondering how the wood/horns thing would seem to people. I feel like kind of an idiot. I wasn't happy with my first try on the wood so I repainted it completely. I somehow didn't realize how similar it was appearing to the horns until it was done and I took a...

Cilantro paints things
I've been working on Aradae just about forever it seems so now that the forum is back I thought I'd see what people think and maybe ask for some criticism. I'm nearly done. I'm working on the metallics now and will then just need to do some final touch-ups. And then the base, for which I have a fair...

It's mostly artificial, but there are a few small bits of twigs or sticks that are natural.

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Happy to Zedmeister. The very bottom is just a circle of cork. I then made a little hill on top of that. I took a styrofoam sphere and cut off a section, which I glued onto the cork. It's a little unnaturally even perhaps, but still I thought it looked ok. The rocks are just stones I painted up, but...

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Thanks for commenting. We seem to have very different styles, which I always find interesting, and I really like you work.
I'm painting up Aradae now and have a pretty ambitious base planned. I'll put some photos up in the WIP gallery.

That is some really great work. I can't believe how strongly your style comes through.
I'm also really impressed with you photos. How do you get such diffuse and even lighting?

Those are some great paint jobs. Any chance you could post a couple more shots of that plague demon? It's incredible.

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Now that the forums are back I thought I'd post the other models I've finished up. I'm slow so there are not many. First up is Geraint. http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/cilantro1/Geraint/45_zps24w08qlu.jpg http://i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/cilantro1/Geraint/63_zpsofodtkwg.jpg http://i...

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Well I figured that since the underside of the weapon is completely out of the zenithil lighting it wouldn't have that bright shiny effect. I'm not sure if that makes any sense though. What do you think? I probably should have just done a little research to find the answer.

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Thanks Azhrarn. To be honest I thought people would say that the skin needs some brighter highlights. That seems to be what a lot of people do, though it's not really my taste.

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Thanks Slinky and Quuids. The base was pretty easy and only took me a few (well, maybe 4 or 5) hours despite being my first one. I basically just followed this guide: http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/35927-a-basic-basing-tutorial/ I got a little bucket of gravely sand and rock from a beach nearby...

Re: Cilantro's completed Darklands
Hi, thanks for the reply and your comments. I didn't keep careful track but this guy probably took over 60 hours to complete. I am a pretty slow painter, obviously. I definitely agree with you about the mail and the skulls. Those were the two parts where I didn't but much effort in and I think it re...

Cilantro's completed Darklands
Hi, I've been painting for about two years and this is the first Darklands figure I've painted. I started with green army men and then painted the much-maligned Bones until I gained enough confidence to try one of these great figures. This is also the first time I had to prep, assemble, prime, and b...
