Re: First attempt at a Tarvax

LOL, I've painted for a couple of years prior but that was all heavy armor and space marines. Mierce has been my first real foray into non-scifi miniatures. Going from metal to flesh is a pretty big departure and has its own set of challenges.

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

Thanks all for the kind words! @Quuids it is less about skill and more about just lots of practice, at least for me. There are a lot of videos and forums out there where you can pick up tips and tricks. The biggest thing is to just do it and practice as much as you can. And try not to compare what y...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

Did some more detail work today, spent a lot of time on barnacles...there are so many! The eyes and crossbar on the anchor are the two big things left to do. Hope to finish him up this weekend! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ucHDslL2i6g/Uc4HgHfE7dI/AAAAAAAAAmo/iFNqxE0LFxo/w816-h460-no/IMAG0463.j...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

I decided to get back to working on Uuthüll again. Here are some early WIP's. I decided on a dark green color. I may give it a wash to push the green back and make it even darker. I'll decide once it gets closer to completion and see how it looks. Still a lot of work to do but I think he is coming a...

Re: Future minis rumour roundup

There was mention of a "Top Secret Project" miniature being worked on by Daniel Cockersell. Not sure if it is directly related to the KS but I get the impression it is something different. Here was Tims comment yesterday on the KS: Petroyus will be sculpted by Stephae N'guyen (Torku, Ulmon...

Re: Removing mold lines

I take a long while removing mold lines myself. It is just part of the process. I'm also a slow painter and figure if I'm going to be spending a lot of time on the miniature I want it to be as perfect as possible when I start. For me there is nothing worse then spending a lot of time on a miniature ...

Just about done, here are the latest updated pics. Just a few more details like additional fur highlights, paint his scars, etc. to finish up but he is mostly complete now. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z0--3zaZsEE/UZWoiDQYklI/AAAAAAAAAdM/02MqiaX-mBA/w816-h460-no/IMAG0429.jpg https://lh3.google...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

He's a WIP JLL so be patient :) He looks flat because I put a coat of matte on it for some of the weathering but once he's done the skin will look more realistic. I'll also likely be adding some drooling saliva, blood, etc before it is done. Stay tuned!

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

Here is an update. I added on two more arms and did some work on the leather, metal and weapons. Still work to do but he's starting to come together now.

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

Here is a quick WIP of where my Galagaak is at the moment. I've been working mainly on the skin and fur but still some details to pick out. The weapons will be next and I hope to have the rest done in the next couple days. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-02GzhsgpdQ8/UZGEiNY1vrI/AAAAAAAAAbc/AiXlla...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

The problem I am having with Uuthuul is figuring out a good color scheme. I was originally thinking a basic black/green dweller of the deep look. But the more I thought about it a lot of deep sea creatures are very light colored or transparent. I've been looking at various images of octopus, squid, ...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

I haven't gone much further really on Uuthüll as I've been side tracked by some other miniatures. One of those is Carrowek. He's about 95% done and I just have a few odds and ends to polish off. Once he's done I'll have to find a good scenic base for him as well. Enjoy! :) https://lh5.googleusercont...

Re: Warchild40k - WIPs

The chain is part of the kit, it attaches on to the anchor and the end is held in one of the hands. That SM is many years old, he was one of my first and is my go to guy for scale purposes :D

Warchild40k - WIPs

This is going to be my next project, Uuthüll. So far I've got him cleaned and put pins in the larger parts to help support the weight of the model. Here are the pieces with pins (sorry it's a little blurry): https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vinPspI_2NE/UTqmdWtqc5I/AAAAAAAAAOQ/788XBT1Y6xg/s1542/IMA...

Re: Preparing resin models

I always wash my resin or plastic minis in warm water with a little dish soap and an old toothbrush. This will remove any mold release left on the miniature. If you used just water it might not have taken off the mold release which can lead to primer not sticking. And make sure the water is just a l...

First attempt at a Tarvax

Here is my first go at a Mierce Miniature. Overall I am pretty pleased with how he came out. I'm not 100% with the skin tone but I'll work that out on my next one. :) He's only on a temporary base at the moment. Once the new plastic ones come out he will find a permanent home. Any constructive feedb...

Re: Multi-angle views of the minis

LOL for a 28mm game he would be but for use as a visual aid in RPG's or board games it would be good. He's certainly tiny compared to the one from the Cthulhu Mythos Foundry Style KS but it is an excellent sculpt regardless.

Re: Multi-angle views of the minis

Uuthull is an amazing sculpt! I had to order it as soon as I saw it and hopefully mine should show up in the next couple of days. It will make a great proxy for Cthulhu in other games :)

Re: Kickstarter haul - who's got what coming?

I went with Sharpen Your Claws and a few additional bits and bobs. I didn't go in nearly as much as I wanted to though, I'm still reeling from previous KS pledges. But I decidedly do NOT have a problem. I can stop whenever I want, I just don't want to yet. ;) Ysian Drune Starter Set Fomoraic Tarvax ...
