Quick question about parry dice

Postby beefknee » Sun Sep 22, 2013 9:37 pm

Quick one about parry dice that I was looking for a bit of guidance.

This is how we play it - Attack dice are totaled - Parry dice = amount of attack dice if the unit has parry dice listed on some of their equipment.
If there are extra parry dice listed (similar to attack dice) these are extra and can be used if needed

EG 4 hits are scored on an Ax Drune - They have light armor but no extra parry dice listed so they get 4 parry dice
A Duguth warrior has four hits dice on it. They have armor and a shield with 1 parry dice each. They will have 4 parry dice with an optional 2
A Sword - Melusine has four attacks on her. She has not equipment with parry dice so she doesn't get any parry dice.

Is this correct?

I believe it's meant to be like this:
* Defender nominates parry dice
* Attacker rolls Strike Dice.
* Defender rolls the successful Strike Dice to Parry. If he nominated parry dice, he adds those to what he rolls. The Parry Dice will need to be a different color, because unsuccessful parries from the Strike Dice become Wound dice, but unsuccessful parries from the Parry Dice do not.
* Any that do not Parry become Wound dice, and the attacker rolls them to determine Attack Damage.

So in your examples, the Ax-Drune and Sword-Melusine both get to roll four dice to attempt to parry, while the Duguth gets to roll six. The Ax-Drune will need a lower dice number to successfully parry because his Constitution should be higher than the Sword-Melusine's due to his armor.

Played a few games now and we've been playing it differently. we've played it the following way -
*defender nominates parry dice
*attacker rolls strike dice
*defender rolls parry dice.
*re-roll a number of unsuccessful parries equal to the number of parry dice, E.G dugath have 2 parry dice each, they get hit by 3 attacks and fail all 3, they can attempt to re roll 2 of the failed parry attempts.

Not sure were 100% correct, but its how we've done it so far.

Still a bit confused :oops:

Do the Drunes get the same amount of parry dice as hit dice on them? Eg 4 hit dice = 4 parry dice. They have light armour listed but do not have any extra parry dice listed under it.

Do the Duguth get the same amount of parry dice as hit dice with up to two extra (1 from their shield and 1 from their armour)

Do the Sword Melusines get any dice at all? They do not have any equipment with parry dice listed.

I'm really not getting this at all :roll:

Dont worry about it, took us a good few games to get to the way were playing now.

In the combat step the attacker rolls all their strike dice, listed under the weapon profile. For each one that successfully hits the defender gets a chance to parry. everyone gets that chance regardless of having parry dice listed in their profile.

If a model does have a parry dice listed it will be in the armour section of their profile and will say how many they have. For each parry dice listed under the armour section that model will get to re roll a parry attempt that they failed.
for example a dugath with armour and shield get 2 parry dice, meaning that they can reroll 2 failed parries in an hour.

Hope that makes some sense, its how we've been playing so far :)

Cheers crazy feet. That's nearly how we played it as well. We played that the extra dice like the duguth have would be rolled at the same time eg four attack dice on duguth, they would roll 6 dice to block 4 attack dice. The re-rolls make more sense.
The one that still confuses me is that the sword melusines don't have parry dice mentioned in their equipment so do they actually get any dice or do the just take the hits? The majority on units have some equipment that mention parry dice.

Cool glad that made some sense :D

the Sword Melusines will get a parry dice, everyone does. the unit being hit gets 1 parry dice for each attack that actually hits. So for the melusines say they get hit with 4 attacks they would get 4 parry attempts. If they had parry dice listed on their profile they would get a re roll.

maybe think of it as parry dice (which give re rolls) and parry attempt which everyone gets?

Makes sense alright, I think I'm just over complicating it. Cheers crazyfeet!
