If a non fearsome unit wishes to engage a fearsome unit, they have to take a valour test. From what i understand they become afraid regardless of the test is passed or not. So no reason to take the test?, must be something i am missing here? I understand in the case of teŕrifying, because if you fail you become shaken. But non fearsome vs fearsome?

You only become afraid if you fail the test.

From the rulebook 6-10-5-3-2: "If the VALOUR TEST is passed, and if the Engaging unit is
not Fearsome or Terrifying itself and has Engaged a Terrifying
unit, or if the Engaging unit is not Fearsome or Terrifying
itself and has Engaged a Fearsome unit, the Engaging unit
continues its Engagement action normally but also enters an
afraid heart state immediately after its Engage Move is
completed"

The way I read it, you become afraid anyway....

I think that's an error in the PDF, I think it should be that if you are not fearsome or terrifying and are engaging a terrifying unit you become afraid whatever happens and become shaken if you fail but it does say that the bit about becoming afraid if you pass also applies if they are fearless. I will check the actual rulebook tonight and see if this has been changed

Just checked the rulebook and it seems to be the same there so I think Rob will have to advise!

I think maybe it should be if you engage or are engaged by a terrifying unit, and you are not at least fearsome, you will be afraid anyway, makes sense that you are a bit scared facing the likes of Blood Maw, but you can still attack though with shaky hands, , and if you fail you also flee. But as you said, we need an official ruling on this. Thx for answering anyway guys!

Hmmm... it looks like an error has snuck in here. If you're not fearsome, or are fearsome and your opponent is terrifying, you shouldn't be afraid if you pass your VALOUR TEST; only if you fail.

I'll fix that in the errata.

-Passed (A) --> No Afraid Token - correct
-Passed (B) --> Afraid Token - no Afraid Token
-Failed (A) --> Afraid token - no Afraid Token (why would a Terrifying beast be afraid of Fearsome? Think of Fearsome as level 1, Terrifying as level 2)
-Failed (B) --> Shaken token - Afraid

Technically, Terrify v Fearsome is the same as Fearsome v not Fearsome and not Terrifying.
