Sell Swords in a core force (non-ally)

Postby demyse » Wed Oct 18, 2017 10:31 am

So probably a daft question but humour me.

generally speaking sell-swords count as part of your ally contingent, so up to 1/3 of your force. But looking at some models, in this instance Alix, she has the following.
Alix is a Sell-Sword individual and may be included as such in a host of any kindred, or as a noble commander or individual in an Ysian or Vras host
so to confirm if I was to take Alix in a Ysian or Vras host she wouldn't count as an ally, but a core member of the force, so the 1/3 gold doesn't apply?

Thanks

Correct, Alix can be taken as a noble commander in an Ysian or Vras host. She's then part of the host, not an ally.

thanks for this, another Alix question, If she takes a beast unit or monstrous beast unit that has the ability to bind to another beast/MB unit (Frēawulf and wulfs etc) is it possible to take a combination like that, or is it strictly 1 unit

All Monstrous Creatures are Bound, not Bind +, so you wouldn't be able to do that anyway, as you would need a Bind+ unit to actually be able to do that and Alix fulfills that role already (Ibut I guess Rob has a more elaborate answer to this)

Alix has the Bind (any Beast or Monstrous Beast) ability. This means she can Bind to anything a Beast or Monstrous Beast can Bind to, as long as that's another Beast or Monstrous Beast, and so she can have, say, Gol Gul who has Binded to a Tomb Spider Unit. In such a case, Alix Binds to both Gol Gul and the Tomb Spider Unit. See p299, Binding to Multiple Units, second paragraph.

The only real restriction to Alix doing this is gold, of course.

Remember that it can still only be one unit Alix has under her (originally Bound units count as one unit), and the allied contingent limit. Unless you're Ysians, of course.

Indeed!

Might be best for you to tell us what you're planning with Alix...! Then I can tell you if it's all legal and so forth. Maybe in the Tactics forum?

As the beast/monstrous beast is bound permanently to Alix, can the additional bound beasts unbind during the battle?
Eg Alix takes a Gunnhrafn that can bind hrafn, the Gunnhrafn is permanently bound to Alix, could the hrafn unbind during the battle or would they be permanently bound also
Thanks

No; the Gunnhrafn and Hrafn become separate Bind units, both Bound to Alix permanently. I'll make this more explicit with Alix's profile though.

Cheers
