It is OK for a unit within a command to just do one across the battlefield, leaving the rest of the units far behind... isn't it? It doesn't suddenly become an unbound thing or an individual after a certain range?

I expect it is fine, but would appreciate confirmation.

Absolutely. You must always ensure that unit does what his orders allow though, of course.
