Blood Maw WIP

Postby JanSyr » Sat Sep 21, 2013 9:02 am

Hi there,

this is my interpretation of Blood Maw (heavily inspired by Bohun´s version). I hope you like it:

After recovering from KSII, I will definitely invest in a decent DSLR.

Very nice! I like the pallid grey tones on this guy and the sticky wet look of the mouth is awesome. Great job!

Looking great JanSyr. Do you mean yours was inspired by Sorn's. I believe that was by the Mighty Seb. Not Bohun. Not enough random lines and colours for it to be a Bohun!

Thanks everyone for your kind words!
@AndS: you are right, I was inspired by Sorn´s pictures - so my kudos goes to Seb, I guess.
I learned a lot about the using of my new airbrush, blending techniques and the use of gloss varnish for a proper wet effect.

Great work. Very natural looking (for an unnatural terror of course).

Your experiences on that matter would highly interest me. ;)

@deadlydeceiver : Thank you very much for your comment!
In the past I never applied enough coats of gloss varnish to achieve a proper wet effect. In addition to this I applied it out of a spray can, with the result of less to no controll of the layering process. Since I´m using gloss varnish out of a dropper bottle (in my case it´s from Basecrafts) and applying three to six coats by brush, I´m more than happy with the results.
So there is no wisdom of the old ones which I rediscovered, but sometimes the little adjustments results in great improvements.

Cheers

Nice paint job, although I think the head-neck join is a bit too obvious.

@The Minsk: I have done a wet land/bog base (with secret weapon`s tree stumps and a muddy vallejo water effect). I will post some pics of the finished model next week (when the new camera of my girlfriend arrives :D ).
@Yxalitis: You are right about the neck-join, but even after treating it with plastic putty it´s still visible. In daylight it looks much more naturally than on the pics, so I´m fine with it.

Cheers

Since u good at painting, and speakin as a newbie that admire minis paint in at high standards, I would try to increase contrast. Between lights and shadows. Above all cheers dude, very good job!

Thanks everbody for your nice comments!

@Malachi: You are totally right, I really have to push the contrasts on my minis. Hope I will improve with the next ones (Norse Trolls)!
