AndyS Penda WIP
AndyS Penda WIP
Yes, it's true, I have finally started painting Penda! Just en early couple of shots here. Started the fur, mail and underpainted the armour.
The armour has been coloured with a green/brown mix and washed with dark brown. This should give a good base to put the bronze over I think. True matallic, still no fancy NNM for me!

Love it, I forgot how much I liked that model. I think I'll put him together next
Re: AndyS Penda WIP
It's easy to forget about the awesome models I have while I'm waiting for the awesome models which are on their way in June! Hard to believe it's getting on for a year since I got this fella!

I'm trying to keep this one quite current for a change so i'll be doing regular updates. Here's stage 2!
Not a great deal to see, just blocked in some areas really. The flesh is reaper tanned flesh shade (I think) with a spot of foundry prussian blue shade. Washed with wisdsor & newton nut brown ink.

Another few hours done. I got quite engrossed this morning and nearly forgot to come to work!
I used the scale 75 gold and alchemy set. Necro gold is the same colour as VMC bronze but with finer pigment so that worked out great. I highlighted it with Peridot alchemy and the very light one I can't remember the name of! Still a bit left to do, final lights and a tidy up.
The skin had some attention with Reaper tanned flesh shade and tanned flesh with a spot of light blue (thanks for the tip!).
More soon I hope!

Re: AndyS Penda WIP
Great job on a stunning mini.
Re: AndyS Penda WIP
In an effort to keep this up to date, I have another pic or two. Just of the cloak and red on the shield really. I even took a pic of the paints I used in case you folks are interested!
The back of the cloak is quite dark and the front quite light! But thats how the zenithal priming turned out, so I'm going with it! The front does need a bit more work though I think. But I'll move to another area first. Could be the legs next!

Looking good!
Re: AndyS Penda WIP
Howdy folks! So I've managed a little more on Penda. We're getting to the really fiddly bits now, also, time to think about a base!
I've worked on his skin and done more work on the red tabard, maybe the other odd bit here and there too.
This is the point at which I start to struggle. I really want to do a good job, take it to the 'next level', but I want to finish and move on to something else too. Well, I have a few weeks before Knutr and Eadric (plus a crap load of other goodies) arrive) so I'll try and focus on doing a good job!

His arm fur has been done too.
Please let me know what you think guys!

Lovely stuff as always.
Re: AndyS Penda WIP
Hey fellas! I've been asked about my bases quite a bit. So I thought I'd do a WIP here for Penda's base. I will probably do one for a larger model too at some point.
Penda is quite a big model on quite a small base. Even so I want it to look like a 'Darklands' base. Not a generic fantasy base. So I collected a few bits and pieces. He's on the battlefield but who is he fighting? My Norse of course! So I grabbed some recognisable Norse bits, well, Vortun's chest shield an an axe, but pretty Norse I think! I added these to some bits of rock, masonry with celtic knot and the obligitory skull and bone combo.
Clearly this was a lot to fit on one base so when making the base up I only put a few rocks and one small piece of masonry.
To make the base I put down a layer of milliput, positioned Penda and added the bits where I saw fit! The shield I cut down to fit on the base. I didn't want it overhanging and wanted it to look as if it contunued off the base. Know what I mean? here's the pic.
Well that's it for now. I'll start the next step tonight!

Re: AndyS Penda WIP
So the base was then primed with Scale 75 black primer. This is the first time I've used it and found it to be very good!
The base was then painted
Before adding natural earth mixed with a bit of dry compost to the base with super glue.
The earth is then given a dark brown wash. The natural variation of colours reallt starts to show then.
At this point I glue our hero to the base!
