Her freehand is amazing and she is the master/mistress of nmm. But I'd need to see if she can capture the grit of Darklands. Seb does that but I've not actually seen any of his other work.

Have a look here, hasn't been updated in a good long time. He did a lot of the SMOG models which is where I first noticed him. http://www.deadfishpainting.com/galleries/commissions/

Have to agree with Minsk. Never took to the brutes all that much but seeing these makes me want to buy them. They look incredible.

Must be nice to have such a big basement!

Love the work on the brutes. All those nice touches such as the tattoos and inflammated flesh.
EDIT: I have a question; are these models protected by a coating of some sort? I can't tell from the pictures.

Wow, just wow. I've always been on the fence with the brutes, but those 3 are just fantastic :)

As to my favourite of the commision artists, I think I'm with the others in my love of Seb's work. I think Bohun's work is magnificent in the same way I love the food created by Heston Blumenthal - it's wonderful and a totally different take on it to how I or most people would think of it, but I just dont have the skill to even consider coming up with those ideas myself. And Alexi-Z's pieces are perfect examples of fantasy models and exquisite, but it's Seb's realistic tones that get me every time :)

Thanks for the kind words about my collection. Obviously, the high praise can only go to the artists themselves. I am merely a patron of their art.

I love the MM trolls. They are so distinctive. And, of course, nobody paints them with such realism and beauty as Seb.

Beautiful Lord of the Rings models Sorn, love the subtle armour details on the gentlemen (and the unadorned patterned bases look great too), the lady is quite spectacularly detailed too, especially given their size.
Quite a bit smaller than the standard 28mm heroic stuff. ^_^

Thx for sharing such great painted miniatures, i really like the style of Sebastian, and not that much bohuns style with a lot of contrast. But seeing the duguth unit togheter, from a distance, it works amazingly. If i have to choose from the painters you've listed, i would say Ana is my fav. Thx again for showing these works of art!

I have to continue to vote for Alexi-Z. I don't know if it's because her paint style is the one I come closest to wanting to emulate, or the way she does her transitions, the freehand details she works in, or the realism she seems to put into her shading, or the way she handles blacklining. Her stuff always seems to resonate with me more than the others.

Thanks for the reply, Azhrarn! I am happy to share my collection with others that have a similar passion for miniature art! Here are two new models (non MM) that the very talented Jeremy Bonamant Teboul painted for me. I think he did a great job! What do you guys think?

Do you have anything in the works with anyone at the mo?

Re: Darklands Models

by grefven
Mmm, while Jeremy Bonamant Teboul is extremely talented, both the pieces you shown look very rough, and not even close as good as all the rest you've shown.

Loratham, the back looks rough and unfinished, and the shading of the muscles at the back doesn't look good at all. The transition between the greens of the cloth, especially in the lower part of the back-side, also looks unfinished. And the NMM of the armour boots doesn't either look good. I wouldn't be satisfied with this result.

The elf, while looking a lot better, I the highlighting at the knee is just bad. Again, the transition of the colours between shading and highlight does not work at all for me, and the highlighting in particular doesn't even look realistic with how deep down it goes down the side. The cloak, while better, looks bad at the top. The transition isn't smooth at all.

Compared with everything else, I hope he didn't charge you a small fortune. If he did, I hope it's just bad pictures and that it looks better in real-life. I would personally send them back.

Asuumin that we re talkin about super painters, I still find Alexy's works amazing. As for Dark lands minis, I would say Sebastien P. Style maybe fits the best. Overall, Mr. sworn u got a fantastic collection, keep it increasing for the joy of our own eyes too :-)

Thanks, guys. Grefven, I passed your comments along to Jeremy. You make some valid points. I still think the model is very well painted, but I have asked Jeremy to improve the "rough" back.

Tim, Seb will be painting a bunch more models for me, including the dragon guys and the Terror. I will post more pics when he is done with them. He also is painting Torku.

Speaking of Seb, here are a few more pics for you to enjoy.

Ryan,
Sometimes you post pictures of models and I think to myself, "I could do that if I was willing to put more than 10 hours into a model. I mean, it's the same shades I use, with cleaner transitions (and maybe not so much the insane contrast ratio." Jeremy's latest work, particularly made me feel like that.
Then you post that insanely gorgeous Gamla Bror by Seb, and I throw my brushes down and decide to take a week off. Ye gods, that's amazing. I like every single decision he made (well, except using metallic paint, but that's my own personal aesthetic and not at all a criticism of what he did).
