hey all

Pretty new to this dark lands stuff so I am not sure how much official lore there is from the game, so ive been working my way through this to keep me going

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mammoth-Celtic ... 1841192481

does anyone have any recommendations for other reading to get you in the mood for dark lands, or even TV shows/movies etc?

thanks

Wikipedia just about any proper noun you see in Darklands. This game has single-handedly caused me to realize that truth is cooler than fiction.

Try these in Wikipedia for starters:

Fomorians
Ys
Gwaelod
Penda
Warp Spasm (check out the comic Slaine)
Cadwaladr, the Red Dragon

Another Book I would suggest is "Vespasian, Masters of Rome" by Robert Fabbri.

Set into the Background of the Roman Invasion in Britannia the first part of the Book involves Druids and a Wickerman, a contraption constructed to imprison the Romans and Burn them alive (When I´ve first seen the Captives in Banbrecas Chest I was reminded of that chapter). Like Darklands Fabbri takes Real History to spin his tales, and like Darklands he does a great job. I would recommend the whole Series. The struggle between the Barbarians, their Beliefs, the civilized Romans and the rise of Christianity are there in all his books but this one in particular came to my mind.

If you would like to watch Movies I would suggest:
- Centurion (not the right time, but the right mood and often Mentioned by Rob)

Or a Series:
- Roar (If you are interested in the Errain, a bit lighter in the mood but some very good episodes, some centered around their Mythology, their beliefs and their relations to Christianity. And the way Longinus is shown in the Series he would fit very well into the Darklands Setting [cursed to live forever for his sacrilege, first trying to redeem his soul and find his rest, but later he turns to the dark side]). I think Wikipedia sums it up very good by saying: "The show freely mixed Christian mythology, Celtic mythology, Druidism, and smatterings of history"

If you are interested in the Byzantii you absolutly have to read the Vespasian Series (and if you liked Spartacus I am sure that you will like those books too).
