Bases, what are your plans?

Postby denilsta » Sat Apr 06, 2013 9:27 am

I love showing off my miniatures on scenic bases, I have used lots of different manufactures in the past to tie the bases in with the models eg Secret weapons Creeping infection for my Death Guard/Nurge Daemon armies and Fantascapes Gothic Ruins for my Grey Knights....

The issue I have is what do I mount these amazing Darkland Models on? Until the rules come out and there is a bit more background information available the geography is a bit unsure. I am going for 5 starters and these are some rough ideas.

Sronax - looks like arctic conditions are the best, but I do not know if this fits the 4 Tarvax and Aalvor who I picture as more grass lands/forests, plus aren't teh Fomoraic supposed to be water based???

Khthones - At first I was thinking desert, but with Megalavra, Ygandra etc I am now thinking swamplands.

Ysian - I was going to go grassland with slate as well.

Norse - ....I am struggling a bit for a characterful look here.

Brythonial - Looking at a rocky, mountainous look.

What are you all doing for the bases or your warband? Or what sort of environment do you see the different fractions coming from?

I'm interested, what did you end up going with in the end?

All my Fomoraic are on snow condition bases.

My Kthones are on Grassy Wasteland bases

My Anglecynn are on Grassy Foresty bases

My Erainn are on Forest bases or Swamp bases depending on the model

My Atalantians I havent based yet but was planning on Deserty bases

The geography is totally settled, not sure where you've got that from. Have a look at the map:

Baalor is all about ice and tundra, so it should be icy wastes, snow, rocks, maybe some tree stumps etc.

Rocky islands with some rainforest.

denilsta wrote:Ysian - I was going to go grassland with slate as well.

The Ysians are Breton / Cornish so that would work.

You could do ship planks etc., but I always do them on rocks and grass and the odd branch.

Yes, that's good, make sure it's grey or dark as they're from Wales.

My Ysians are on a grasslands /heather and slate/rocks style.

My Albainn are on grassy and heather, sort of plain, with a few rocks under a lightish snowfall effect.

My Khthones I'm thinking barren, dusty rocklands, with some occasional muddy pools and maybe the odd bit of ruined temple sticking out here and there. Maybe a lava effect on the sorcerer's bases

I decided on doing something that may seem a little odd for my Ysian bases.
I decided for a green flagstone.

The idea was inspired by this level in Golden Axe 2....I really love me some golden axe. :D

Ill try adding some weathering powders when I get some, tried some moss tufts on one of them but it looks shit.

If I can get my hands on a revenge of death adder arcade machine I'd be set.

I'm sure you'll be able to play it on PC with an arcade emulator!

Right, see you all next year...

Hahaha.
I do have the mame emulation, but there is something magical about a big, chunky arcade machine! You can even use them as a (very expensive) money box!

Don't show me that. I have miniatures to paint.
I need less distractions, not more ;)
