work/painting stations

Postby AndyP » Fri Jul 12, 2013 11:35 am

Since it was mentioned on KS comments I have started this thread for people to show what their painting areas look like. Here are a couple of shots of mine. I want to get or build a rack/shelving system to hold my paints on the back wall as they are all currently stored in the GW, Vallejo and Battlefoam-P3 carry cases around my desk.

Great work station, that's an impressive amount of paints! How the heck did you build Krull? I got him yesterday and am intimidated by building him. My Krull's torso seemed out of wack, did you notice that? Did you have to use a lot of green stuff?

Thanks for sharing the pictures

Quids- The body was a little warped, but a nice hot bath sorted it out. There were some awful mould lines that I just couldn't sort, the mini looked as if the mold had slipped! hence the slight changes of additional chains and skulls, which hide what I couldn't fix and there was a fair bit of greenstuff used too.

AndyS- The inks are Andrea. I use their pigments and black paint set too. The inks are the most intense ones I have come across, I thin them at a 15-1 ratio and they still offer amazing depth. The yellow is a favourite for bright golden tones.

Quick update. Improved my area somewhat.

Still have to keep the GW paints in a case but I don't use them much. Only the washes and glazes, which I have managed to get onto the racks. Just want to add a couple more lights now :-)

Screwed mine to the wall but you can have them free standing if you prefer.

I would never have found them! Looking at peoples paint collection is as much fun as looking at their minis! Are the P3 inks any good?

Just noticed your brush stand. Doesn't look like you have their brushes on it! Don't blame you! Mine are falling to pieces, the brushes are splitting and the ferule has come off where it was just glued on by about 2mm! And this was my replacement batch!

The P3 inks are decent enough. Strong pigment but the dropper is just a pinprick and they clog easily which inevitably leads to explosions. Brushes are still the trusty series 7's. G&G ones are nowhere near good enough, not even up to GW standards. I'm only using them to mix paints and paint textured bases. Have some Army Painter and a couple of Vallejo too which come in handy for drybrushing or scenery/base painting.

@Asoshnev: The OSL effects on that cat miniature are amazing! Very lifelike. I've always had problems getting fur to look right. I guess the true-scale is helpful for that, though.

I have to admit - didn't paint that one myself...
Picked her up at a yard sale for 15 bucks a couple years ago - and turned out to be a limited edition model, i think. Total bargain.
Also doubles as an alarm clock (that goes off at random around 3-5 AM) - how cool is that!

Nice deal! I've got a five-month-old baby that has the same alarm clock function! He doesn't fit on my art desk, though. Will try to take the time to photo my desk tonight, but we'll see.
