Autumn/Winter 2013 Challenge - signup thread

Postby zedmeister » Fri Oct 18, 2013 1:56 pm

Right, it's high time we start one of these threads. It's a good way to both promote Darklands as well as help get our growing piles of resin painted. It's also a good motivator in that it helps spur us on to get nicely painted forces.

So I propose a tale of x gamers 2013 challenge. The challenge is:

- Select 500 gold worth of Darklands resin (doesn't have to be a legal force)
- Break the force down into easily managed chunks
- Post updates of the miniatures in the 2013 challenge thread as you paint them

500 gold is quite a small force to start and with 2.5 months of the year left it should give us a good chunk of time to get stuff together. So, what do you think? Who's up for the challenge? Is 2.5 months enough? If you want in, chose your force and reply to this thread. I'll draw up a rollcall and we can get the first challenge started

Zed,
I'm in. I'm even going to take it a step further and see if I can get away with two or three.
* Brythoniaid: Geriant Nerthol, Pendyndraig, Dyndraig Warrior with Banner, two Dyndraig Warriors, Tarwdraig
* Fomoraic: Tain of Baalor Skull-Bearer on Ipracx, Maagaan, Shaaroc the Reviled
* Norse: Eirik Longaxe, 3 Troll Warriors, Blood-Maw
[EDIT: Dropped three troll warriors, added Blood-Maw, added a Tarwdraig to the Brythoniaid]

Urgh, ok. In with my Ysians.

Seer Drune - 84 Gold
Ax-Drune Unit - 4 warriors with command - 118 Gold
Brute with Goad-Drune - 89 Gold
Mantichora with Goad-Drune - 200 Gold

4 activations at 500 gold seems as good as I'll get.

Cheers,

Manny

I'm in: Brythoniaid: Teyrn, Uchelwyr, Cawrdraig, Gwyfern. That's about 600 points, but is pretty much my core force.

Right, I'm in with my Ysians - as I've already done my War Drune (Ulric) I'll throw into this - Axe Drunes (7 inc command) Bow Drunes (5 inc champion) and a Mantichora - that should come in around the 500 gold mark

Following hot on it's heels will be some Angelcynn, will post specifics later but probably Lord, Mage, Duguth (5-10), Werwulfa (1 - Cearl playing down for now) and a Guthwulf

Right final lists:

Ysian -

War-Drune (Ulric) = 119 Authority 83 - Painted already not in tale points
Axe-Drunes - 7 Models (175) + Command section (18) = 193 authority 15
Bow-Drunes - 5 Models (70) + An-Bo-Drune (3) = 73 authority 13
Manticohra = 212 authority 52

Angelcynn -

Thegn (Meloda) - (71) + Heavy Armour (4) = 106 Authority 69
Duguth - 9 Models (216) + Heavy Armour (18) + Command section (18) = 252 authority 23

Wiglere (Cynemon) = 95 Authority 66
Werwulf = 67 authority 31

Hello,

Not sure if this would be a good, playable force, but I would like to paint:

Penda 221
Wiglere 95
5x Duguth 24/per, +2each/heavy armour, +6 wolfborn, +6 fane bearer, +6 horn blower

I think it would be a usable force. (I am kind of limited with what I have but hope this works)

What class of character is Aethelglyth? Can she go in an Duguth unit? Where can I find her stats/gold cost? (all questions that just came to me as I cant place her on the muster lists) Also could Meloda join a Duguth unit?

Thanks for any help, (and for setting up something to keep us motivated Zed)

Take care,
Joe

Cool. Do you reckon it's feasible enough for us to get photos of our starting force uploaded sometime this weekend so that we have our "Before" shots?

Also, how do you want to run it - a single progress thread for all of us?

Yeah, I think the 'before' shots will be a good idea. Also, I vote for keeping it all on this post.

I'm willing to give it a shot. :)

I'll be attempting a small Fomoraic force.
Kraan (as a Tain of Baalor with Shield) 85 gold
3 Srónax (no upgrades) 255 gold
    1 Feleox 161 gold
For a total of 501 gold.
Oddly enough, it is even a legal force.
The Feleox has had a little paint on him already, and Kraan and 1 Srónax are already assembled.
But, as it is mainly the painting I have issues committing too, I think it'll still be reasonably fair.

If I had to guess, Aethelglyth is probably a Forthegn or Thegn with a Sword and Axe (as listed in the Muster, she's not unique, she's a female Gesíth leader basically).
She would have no trouble joining a Duguth unit, and according to the muster rules for those 2 character types she would make one mandatory (and Mainstay).

Meloda would probably be fine leading a unit of Duguth, however she has a ton of spells that only work on friendly Werewolf/wolf units.

She is a Thegn. You can find her on the following muster list. Just open the Angelcyn PDF and you'll see where each model falls.

Meloda is a noble so she could certainly lead a unit.

Think I've decided on Norse:
Eiric - Steersman 82G
Troll unit of 5 inculding champion 414G
Total 496G

Will upload photos tonight. Some trolls are already base coated but I have a second set I can use as before shots.

Hey,
haven't been about here for ages other than lurking on the KS comments, but I saw this and I'm in.
I'm planning an initial group for the 500, hopefully it goes some way to a legal force.
Ysian
Seer Drune
2 x Brutes
3 x Goad Drunes (including An-Goad-Drune)
5 x Ax-Drune (including An-Ax, Bann-Ax, Kern-Ax Drunes)
5 x Bow-Drune (including An-Bow Drune)

As I calculate it, that'll be 483 gold.
Now I just need to put them all together.
