Here's the WIP of my Brutes, still a ways to go but a decent start imo. I've used GW brand paints.

Brown: Mournfang Brown
Flesh: Ratskin Flesh (Base), Reikland Fleshshade (Wash), Cadian Fleshtone (Drybrush)
Grey: Mechanicum Standard Grey

Back tumours are Carroberg Crimson with Agrax Earthshade

Image

Shoulders and Blades: Base: Leadbelcher / Highlight: Runefang Steel strikes / Wash: Agrax Earthshade

Tongue: Base: Pallid Wych Flesh / Wash: Carroberg Crimson

Teeth: Base: Screaming Skull / Wash: Agrax Earthade

Raw Flesh: Wash: Carroberg Crimson

Sack: Base: Mournfang Brown / Drybrush: Skrag Brown / Drybrush: Karak Stone / Wash: Agrax Earthshade

The flesh on lower areas has been washed with Agrax to give shadows.

Stones: Base: Mechanicum Grey / Wash: Reikland Fleshshade / Wash: Agrax Earthshade

Need a bag of static grass to do the base, some Testor's Dullcote and he's done. I'm really pleased with him.

Next Ysian Brute painted up in the same as before. The scales are Waagh Flesh, Drybrushed with Loren green followed by Cadaverous Green 46A (Foundry paints) given a wash of Athonian Camoshade and Agrax Earthshade

Hello,

Looking good. Didn't think those brutes were that big, wow next to the ax-men he looks beastly! (at least there is lots of room on the base to work with)

Take care,
Joe

Cheer. The Kickstarter's killed my finances for a few weeks, I'm planning to use static grass, slate and other bits. Just need to buy them :) I hate having no cash.

The final Brute in progress.

I've been a bit too heavy handed with the Agrax on the metal. So going to drybrush a bit more on over the top of it.

Last of the Brutes.

The rags on the swords had a wash of Seraphim Sepia and a layer of Ushabti Bone
The bones are Ushabti Bone washed with consecutive layers of Athonian Camoshade followed by Seraphim Sepia. They were then given another drybrush of Ushabti Bone and a layer of Screaming Skull. The helmet horns had some Pallid Wych Flesh at the ends and upper sides.

The complete unit.

Still have about 6 days before I get enough funds to get the stuff for their bases.

Next up Ax-Drunes.

"Here's Hedroc!"

Not finished yet. Details need picking out and the bones need work, but he's coming along nicely for a few hours work.

Hedroc's done. The only remaining part of my Encounter warband is 5 Ax-Drunes.

Thanks :D

I've run out of Mournfang Brown so it's going to be a couple of weeks before I can get the Ax Drunes done completely. Until then I'll be just doing flesh and metal

Yay for minor scratchcard wins :D I got the grass and Mournfang brown nice and early. I can get on with the Ax-Drunes properly!

The grass is Scorched Grass by Games Workshop, the tuft is a Mordheim Turf also from GW and the scree is Ash Grey from Army Painter. I'm quite pleased at how they've come out. It doesn't show up too well on Hedroc's base I think it's a little crowded but not too badly. Next time I'll be more half and half with the grass/scree ratio on the smaller bases.

I have to say, I was a little worried about the bases, those now look absolutely awesome, top job :)

Glad you like them :) What was the concern with the concept?

I've got the Ax-Drunes undercoated but it'll probably be tomorrow before I get to make a start on them properly.

'Need a bag of static grass to do the base, some Testor's Dullcote and he's done. I'm really pleased with him.'

These look pretty good. I particularly like Muldo and Ugurd. The basing also suits your paint scheme well.

Arkham Origins has been a nightmarish distraction and I've only just pulled myself away from it

Still here's a base coated Mawgen (well the metals are a bit further on) I'm working with how I painted Hedroc.

Image

@Funkychef: I can see why you'd think the bases were a bit naff painted brown and left :D

@Johnnyjuice: Thanks very much, I'm really happy with Muldo he's currently my favourite. As for the bases I was really happy with them, so much so that I've started to buy up enough supplies to complete my gameboard and rebase my Death Guard.

The first finished Ax-Drune. I've been playing with GW's new blood effect, once I'm more comfortable with using it I may stain the axe blade of this guy and the others.

Got Canan finished today as well. I'm feeling a bit tired now so I think my feet are going up and I'll watch some anime or something.

I'm really pleased with how the cloaks are coming out.

Done. The rabbits need to be better but at the moment I don't think I can do them full justice. So a couple of thin layers and a wash for now.

Finished Talan and with it 500g of Ysian's!

Here's a pic of Ulric as I've been working on him to keep the flow of painting going whilst on Talan. He'll no doubt be part of my next 500g to expand the force to 1000g.

A group shot of the encounter host. I'm really pleased with how they've turned out (If you notice Mawgen has sneakily changed his hip cloths to a matching red, which I think really improves the look of him).
The leather and flesh look I think really suits the Ysians.
