Diving and Landing as an Engagement Action into blind arcs

Postby Icchan » Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:14 am

Can a Circling unit when it Lands Engage an enemy warrior in its blind arc even if it could land in the sight arc? Engagement rules state that sight arc must be filled first if the engaging warrior has a majority of its base in the sight arc of the defender, but circling units aren't on the table.

It's a little simpler than that: unless they are already engaged, Dived on warriors can always Turn to Face a Diving unit, so it's not really about where the Diving unit Lands, it's about the Dived on unit's reaction.

What if the Dived unit is already Engaged, unconscious, confused or otherwise unable to perform a voluntary Hold reaction?

Then it can't Turn to Face.

That I've already figured out, but can Diving units then Land in their Blind arc, even if the sight arc is available?

Yes, of course - Divers can Land where they want, but it may immediately be in the Sight arc of the enemy unit Dived on because they have Turned to Face. Dives can never be direct Engagements.

Then there's a bug in the chapter numbering (in the 2nd ed pdf); it says "Soaring units ignore the 6·10·7·1: Moving Engagers step through to the 6·10·7·6: Swift Engagers step below,"
but the Moving Engagers step is 6 · 10 · 6 · 1, not 6 · 10 · 7 · 1.

I've fixed all the different numbering references in the new rule book, you'll see when I upload it.
