Battle-blinder question

Postby jereme » Thu Jun 26, 2014 11:21 am

From Norse Profiles, v 1.6, Gythja Invocations:
Marked unit becomes unsighted until the beginning of their next activation.

It appears that this invocation is useful in preventing Charge Reactions and Defender's Attack Move/shoot/attack/invoke, as well as interfering with Receiving New Orders. It does not appear to have any effect on the Marked unit's actions during its activation. Is that correct?

The answer is in the rules:

"2 · 3 · 7 · 5
UNSIGHTED
Warriors that are unsighted cannot see enemies around them, perhaps because they are naturally blind or thanks to the effect of certain invocations. Unsighted warriors cannot draw line of sight to any unit under any circumstances and effectively cannot see anything."

Thus, many actions are impacted - if you can't see an enemy, you can't charge it, shoot it, etc. etc. There's also modifiers in combat.

Hope that helps.

the question is more about duration than how unsighted works.

Example: Gythja invokes Battle-blinder on a Lively unit of Bow-Drunes, making them unsighted. The Ysian player then activates the Bow-Drunes, Battle-blinder ends, and the Bow-Drunes, now Sighted, proceed to shoot the Gythja.

Hi Jereme

That's correct.

It's designed to make the unit in question easier to kill in combat (hence "battle-blinder") than just to make them blind. If they're unsighted, they fight poorly of course, because they can't see anything. So in a lot of ways it's aimed at warriors that are weary and about to be engaged, if that makes sense.

More playtesting is required to ensure that this spell is useful though - if people find it doesn't work well, I'll change it to "end of their next activation". That's a lot more powerful though, and price would increase.

Hope that helps.

I can see several interesting uses for it that go beyond just negating the marked unit's activation. It really is more of a "de-buff" than directly offensive.

Additionally it can force the opponents hand. They either need to activate that unit next or leave it at risk for another of your turns.
