Any advice on what type of putty/filler to use to get those slight fit up gaps to smooth over and disappear?

The idea of 'liquid green stuff' sounds nice, but does it actually work well?

Anything else out there that will do the job, and stay closed up over time?

I'm not a huge fan of liquid greenstuff, though it is okay for small gaps. You can also use super glue to fill in smaller gaps.

For larger gaps I use greenstuff or milliput. Greenstuff is my preferred go to medium but I know a lot of people here like milliput. I've used both but still stick wtih GS as for me it is easy to add any necessary detail or otherwise manipulate. Just be sure to use water on the tools so it doesn't stick.

Pretty much exactly what war child said. Liquid greenstuff really is only for filling thin cracks. Humbrol. do a tube called model putty which is pretty much identical to liquid greenstuff but you get much more of it so works out better value but it stinks.
