happy new year with half price* monsters!

We have five quite superb releases for Darklands in December, dark age fantasy fans, and we believe these are some of our best yet. Don't take our word for it though, have a look at these guys and gals for yourself!

Following on from last month, the Brythoniaid gain another Dyndraig - Naegannwg - a standard-bearer of much renown; for the Fomoraic, the hairy rhino-men known as the Srónax continue to amaze with Ucquraan; the Khthones are lucky enough to get two releases this month, and whilst one is but a reworking of Ophius to become the wingless Ophios the other is, quite simply, our miniature of the moment, the Gorgór called Sthena; and for the Ysians, the Brutes gain another nutter with a small brain and a massive weapon in the form of Nung the Horn-Brute.

As if the release of five new miniatures is not enough, wait until you see what we have for you in January 2013, unveiled in December. Dan Cockersell's next masterpiece is quite something to behold... {split}

BRY-GWY-3502 - Naegannwg, Tândyndraig of Gwaelod
Pronounced 'Nye-gan-oog' for the non-Welsh, Naegannwg is an awesome sculpt and the standard-bearer for the Dyndraig unit. He is a Tândyndraig ('Tarn-dun-draig') - a Fire Man Dragon - and he bears the White Standard of Gwaelod, an ancient heirloom of some power that he can use to call dragon-kind to his side. All the Dyndreigiau (the Welsh plural of Dyndraig) have been drawn up by Christophe Madura and sculpted by Roberto Chaudon, and all the better for it, for the unit is consistency brilliant as a result - something we try to do with all of our miniatures, where possible - and let's face it, where else can you buy man-dragons?

FMR-BLR-3503 - Ucquraan, Srónax Warrior
We are certainly filling up these monstrous infantry units! Ucquraan is a part of the Srónax unit led by Órorqaan and containing Qqolaan, who were released in October and November respectively. As with the others, Ucquraan is a very hairy, very large rhino-man with a bad attitude and a dinky rhino-man todger, something that we believe has never, ever been said before in the history of the world. It makes you think. Drawn by Georges Clarenko and sculpted by the slightly mad Allan Carrasco, Ucquraan will bash your brains in with his massive stone club before breakfast, if you let him.

KTH-GOR-0001 - Ophios, Gorgon of Khthon
Our old friend Ophius finally gets a makeover for Darklands and we believe he's better than ever in the shape of Ophios thanks to the removal of those wings. (Don't fret though, you can still get hold of Ophius with wings in the BaneLegions range). Ophios is, of course, the lord of the Gorgons and the leader of the Khthones, once-slaves who quest to found a civilisation of their own and to slaughter their masters, it says here. Drawn by Stefan Kopinski from back in the mists of time and sculpted by Stéphane Simon yonks ago (well, he amended him to be wingless not long back) Ophios should sell like the only hot cakes in the last hot cake shop at the end of the world. Or not, as the case may be.

KTH-GOR-0002 - Sthena, Gorgór of Khthon
Ahhh, the beautiful Sthena. From start to finish, our scarily attractive snake-woman has made our hobby-loving hearts beat that little bit faster, for we realised that no miniature has ever quite had the combination of beauty and the beast captured by both the artist, Christophe Madura and the sculptor, Thomas David - ever. Well, that's what we think, anyway. Sthena is a gorgeous miniature, one of the best we have ever released, and a lot of the credit for that has to go to Thomas who is possibly the best sculptor of girlies in the world, at least for wargaming. Thomas is working on more Khthones for us in the future - a Gorgonarchon next, and soon the female Gorgonares...!

YSN-KYS-3505 - Nung, Horn-Brute
From beauty and the beast to just, er, beast: Nung the Horn-Brute is quite grotesque, and thus all is as it should be. Sculpted by Grégory Clavilier from artwork by Danny Cruz, Nung is the epitomé of the Ker-Ys Brute: big muscles, massive weapon, some aberrations and a tiny brain fuelled by hate. Nung, of course, completes the Brute unit of Gulguta, Lugung, Uggurd and Muldo, so watch out for the unit box of those next year, as well as - dare we say it - the female Brutes...

The stunning miniatures mentioned above are available to pre-order right now from this very website (and many others these days), and they will be officially released on the 1st of December. Just in time for Christmas, and speaking of time, there is just time to unveil a sneak peek of Dan Cockersell's next masterpiece, Uuthüll... out in January!

FMR-BLR-8852 - Uuthüll

Watch out for more sneak peeks of Uuthüll soon!

BRY-GWD-3712

The Dyndraig that lend their brutal blades to Cadwaladr, the famous Red Dragon of Teyrnas Gwynedd, are mighty allies indeed. Their numbers may be limited but the strength in their limbs and the unquenchable fire in their hearts ensures the Dyndraig are rightly feared by the enemies of the Brythoniaid, enemies who once thought, perhaps, that dragon-kind was finished. The Srónax, horned man-beasts of immense strength and unyielding might, hold a unique place in the armies of Baalor for their savagery is the equal of all but the most powerful creatures and bestial Warriors set against them - and even then, Ucquraan knows, there will be more Srónax than they, more brutal horned ones of cold Thule to bring to bear should they be needed....  more »

It is foolhardy to assume that the Gorgonares, and their implacable lord, the Gorgon known as Ophios, are in any way a spent force. Yet there are still some who believe so. A nightmarish Brute of horn and bone and muscle, an emphatic answer to the question of whether the Ysian fleshsmiths are as insane as many believe, Nung is a living hulk of meat goaded into battle by his masters. Once human, once sane, the depraved acts performed upon Nung's body has deformed both his form and his nature, to the point where the agony of his transformations...  more »
